History

The Sheffield Events Company Ltd (SEC) was founded by Scott Barton & Jill Phillips in 2000 to bring under one umbrella a number of events that they had been successfully organising since 1996.

The first event was After Dark which has been held every year since 1996 and this led to Fright Night, City Lights, Grin Up North/Sheffield Comedy Festival and now the StreetLife Festivals of Street Entertainment & The British Festival of Street Entertainment. All of our events have been established from scratch and last year over 200,000 people attended or participated in our events & festivals.

Between 1999 and 2007 we staged the Mayfest festival which atrracted up to 40,000 visitors each year and hosted performances from Beverley Knight, Mark Owen, McFly, Busted, Blazin Squad, Chesney Hawkes & Right Said Fred. Unfortunately due to rising costs and changes to the original venue we took the decision to suspend Mayfest in 2008 and concentrate on other events and festivals.

We do undertake commissions to stage private events (such as the 100th Birthday Party of the University of Sheffield) and we have worked with a wide range of clients, partners & sponsors including BBC (TV & Radio), 20th Century Fox, Virgin, Sheffield City Council, Cartoon Network, Sheffield Newspapers, Creative Sheffield, Birmigham Star City, South Yorkshire Police, Walk The Plank, Viacom, Veolia, Yorkshire South, Creative Concern, SYPTE, Irwin Mitchell, Outokumpu, University of Sheffield, McMillan Cancer Care, Heart FM, Bluebell Wood Hospice, DLA Piper, Stagecoach Supertram, First Group, Paces Charity, Real Radio, Ford, Sony, Honda, Galaxy 105, BMG, Sheffield International Venues,  Hallam FM, Jaguar & Live Nation.

Our core work remains in Sheffield but we are now expanding into other parts of the UK and further afield.
